For that reason, it is difficult to give every client one exact number of years and promise that their SMP will remain completely unchanged for that entire period.

Does Sun Exposure Affect SMP?
Sun exposure is one factor that can influence how scalp micropigmentation looks over time. Repeated UV exposure can contribute to the pigment appearing lighter.
This does not mean you need to avoid being outdoors after receiving SMP. Once your scalp has completely healed, sensible sun protection can become part of your normal scalp-care routine.
Once your scalp has fully healed, consider appropriate sun protection when spending extended periods outdoors. During initial healing, follow the aftercare instructions provided for your treatment.
How Do You Maintain SMP?
After the initial healing process, long-term SMP care does not need to be complicated. The goal is to care for your scalp normally and evaluate the treatment based on how it actually looks.
You do not need to schedule a touch-up every few months simply because time has passed. Once your initial treatment is complete, you can enjoy the result and consider future maintenance if the existing SMP eventually becomes noticeably lighter.
When Should SMP Be Refreshed?
A refresh may be appropriate when your existing SMP has become lighter or softer and you would like to restore more definition. There is no automatic refresh schedule that applies to everyone.
It is also important to distinguish a future refresh from the sessions used to complete your original treatment.
Initial sessions are used to build and complete your planned SMP. A future refresh is maintenance performed after that original treatment has already been completed and has changed over time.
How Much Does SMP Treatment Cost?
At Michael Angelo SMP, pricing is based on the areas of the scalp that need to be treated and the individual treatment plan. We divide the scalp into five main sections: the front/hairline, middle, crown, sides and back.
Individual scalp sections are generally $800 per section. For clients receiving a complete shaved-head SMP treatment that requires all five sections, the treatment is typically discounted and based around $2,500 rather than pricing all five sections individually.
A complete shaved-head treatment involving all five scalp sections is typically based around $2,500. This is not a guaranteed flat price for every client.
Your final treatment price may be lower or higher depending on the areas that require treatment, your existing hair, previous SMP, scars, the amount of work required and your individual treatment plan.
Every scalp is different. An in-person or video consultation allows us to evaluate your scalp, discuss the result you want, determine which sections need treatment and provide an appropriate treatment plan and price before you begin.
Front / Hairline
The frontal section and hairline design area. Individual section pricing is generally $800.
Middle
The central area between the front and crown. Individual section pricing is generally $800.
Crown
The crown area toward the upper back of the scalp. Individual section pricing is generally $800.
Sides
The side areas used to create continuity with the overall shaved-head treatment. Individual section pricing is generally $800.
Back
The rear section of the scalp. Individual section pricing is generally $800.
When unlimited treatment sessions are included in an agreed treatment plan, this refers to the sessions needed to complete that initial treatment. It does not mean unlimited lifetime maintenance or future refresh treatments.

Pigment selection, impression spacing, treatment density and hairline design should work together. SMP should be customized to the individual rather than applying the exact same pattern to every client.
